Cochem set the tone for our road trip, we were ready for more wines, Nürburgring type findings and excellent driving roads lol. Baden-Baden, our next stop, was a three-hour drive from Cochem, and we loved it! Our hotel, Hotel-Heiligenstein, was in a quiet residential area away from town and close to a few wine vineyards. It was gorgeous, tranquil, and just what we needed. We were initially going to stay 2 nights, but we extended it by an extra night ha! I mean with views like this, how could we not stay the extra night?
For din dins we decided to eat in and tried out the hotel’s restaurant which is Michelin guide. the food was spot on! We tried a selection of, if not all the dishes on the menu for the evening and like I said, SPOT ON! The carrot soup was delicate, creamy and to be honest, soo good! The duck salad has got to be the best one we have had – perfectly cooked duck slices served with a salad and the tastiest dressing! It was DELISH!
The fish was breaded (but not thick) served in a sauce with runner beans and I enjoyed it immensely. Neal opted for meat dish with mushrooms and what I can only describe as egg like noodles? Not very helpful I know but Neal loved it.
We also had cheese selection which included my fave (blue cheese), grapes, walnuts. The pudding? Easiest way to describe it is a kind of sundae! It was a layered delight of berries, vanilla, and wafer!
All of this accompanied with Trocken Riesling from Robert Schatzle vineyard which local to the hotel and was delicious as well as a cheeky Paulaner weisbier. What a fab introduction to German cooking!
