Hi Garmanvsfood family, it’s that time again where we take advantage of the access we have to Sicily and go on a road trip! For those of you who are not aware, Malta is just 2 hours shy of Sicily via the ferry. So, we are back on the road discovering new and visiting old places. Our final destination for this road trip is Taormina, why? Because why not? Ha! After a one night stay with the oldies back in May, we knew we had to come back and explore.

Noto, a little town in Sicily was our only pit stop. Neal picked Noto because it was a different driving route, plus, (as I later found out) there exits a road side café that is a national treasure which we just had to visit, apparently🙄. Caffe Sicilia was founded on 1892

and has been serving the good folk of Noto mouth watering deserts. It was B U S Y. Filled with both locals and tourists waiting and wanting to savour the deliciousness in this here café. I am not going to lie, I was in a mood because the heat in these Sicilian streets ain’t for kids okay? Plus, getting a table here is based on a one in, one out system even though you don’t quite know where the ‘in’ or ‘out’ is 🙄! Yep, organised chaos ha! Nevertheless, don’t let this dissuade you, trust and believe that anything you get from here will taste like nothing you have ever had!

After securing our table, we ordered a few bits – double expresso for Neal, Tea for yours truly, ice cream, almond granita, brioche and cannoli. Now, I know when you read the ice – cream bit, you must have been like 🙄, nothing that special about ice cream. Huh? I mean yes, Italy is known for gelato but let me be clear, this was no ordinary ice cream okay? It was I Profumi del Blanco

A fiorilatte with gin, black pepper and candied lemon peel. Fiordilatte with almond, extra virgin olive oil and candied ginger! 😮Like do you see this? Trying to describe what it actually tasted like, would not do it justice. It was the creamiest, flavoursome ice cream I have ever had. Oh and the ‘cherry on the top’ is not cherry at all. It is honey candied tomato! yup! crazzzzyyyyyy!!! The Almond granita was perfect! Think a sorbet but sweet without the citrus, sharp tangy taste that is a sorbet. Instead it is creamy, soft ice like a slush puppy served in a bowl

accompanied with freshly baked brioche. Why a brioche?  It is for dipping into the granita! It is a breakfast staple because summer in Sicily is BOILING. The cannoli was divine, made proper with ricotta and the pastry? 😋😀🥰

This is going to be a ‘sweet’ road trip, look at this spread

There goes my waist line ha!

Granita – I am hooked, and that’s my business

Ndidi

p.s. I did say this granita has us in a choke hold. We outchea sampling the best granita Sicily has to offer and we are not shy about it!  From queuing up at Bambar Taormina for a peach and almond granita and having one for brekkie in Villa Schuler! #sorrynotsorry
