Another weekend, another city and this time I am in Milano! My first time here was for less than 24 hours. Took the train from Como and at the time, it really did not do anything for me. 🤷🏽. It could be because it was during fashion week and it was a lot – everything, everywhere, all at once like 🙄! I was not impressed. . Fast forward 5+ years, I am back here for the weekend and it has been fab! What changed? Well, my girl Rachel lives here 😀, having a local show you around makes a difference plus this is our first tasting menu together, so, I really only came for the food 😉. The weather today was glorious, spring is definitely in the air and we spent it soaking up the sun, walking these Milan skreets, having brunch aka the largest charcuterie board by the canals,

visiting the serapian store, getting back my VAT (only positive about Brexit)! Trust me when I say we earned our dinner at 28 Posti. I have had some fantastic tasting menu’s in Italy – Feel Como (Como), Il Buco (Sorrento), Kiste and Tishi Toshi (Taormina) to name a few, so whilst I had high hopes for the meal, plus with Rachel having a fish allergy truly didn’t know what to expect 🤫. Happy to say I really should not have worried, because, 28 Posti stay ready to be ready! We originally booked for the 10 course taster menu + wine pairings but owing to Rachel’s allergy, we opted for the 5 course tasting menu. Unfortunately, the is no wine pairing with the courses, nonetheless, they have a great selection of organic wines which (on the recommendation from the sommelier, will pair perfect with your chosen course). Even more interesting is that there is no ‘menu’ . So our tasting menu was a surprise- essentially whatever the chef and team conjure up from the produce sourced at the local markets of the day❤️! The chef’s intro was mushroom & beetroot, herb sponge mayo & miso and parmesan!

The mushroom was a flake with the texture similar to a croissant, in particular the crumbly bits and it melted in your mouth too 😮. The herb sponge reminded me of piece of Nigerian sponge cake, moist enough to not be soggy and tasted scrumptious with the parmesan pastry that was a cheese delight! Any doubts I may have had about this food adventure, very swiftly disappeared ha! The fresh baked bread made with Sicilian flour served with probably the smokiest tasting butter I have ever had,

it was yummy! Next up was the artichoke and sweet baby Jesus, these guys at 28 Posti have elevated the humble artichoke to legendary! Don’t get me wrong, when I have artichoke as part of a tasting menu, it never really is the star of the show. It usually is an accompaniment to a fish dish (Launceston place) or beef (Fork and Cork). At 28 Posti, the artichoke is the main dish. It is a whole grilled artichoke that comes with cabbage sauce with aioli as a pour over

I mean talk about main character energy. It was the prettiest artichoke I have seen and it tasted incredible. My oyster soup gave kombucha vibes, heavy on the fermented flavour and texture. Rachel had shitake mushroom, parmesan foam with truffle which she thoroughly enjoyed.

The pasta course was a 3 part series, yup THREE! The pasta with kefir (very al dente and sharp), parmesan foam and a pour over sauce.

First you had the sauce poured into the foam, then you took a bite of the pasta and a sip of the foam & sauce mixture, in a ‘bite & sip’ fashion. Not going to front, the pasta on its own had a sharp acidic taste but when combined with the sauce which had undertones of miso as well as the parmesan, it nulled the sharpness and acidity of the pasta, making it more pleasant to the palate. Definitely a .. err unique dish. White fish with broccoli with anchovy sauce tasted so fresh, I mean nothing beats a catch of the day type fish to be honest! Rachel had radish, kefir, kiwi and lemon.

I have to say, I really liked how the team served dishes that gave off the similar textures so we both didn’t feel like we were having random things as part of our tasting menu experience! Testament to level of customer service here for sure. Our dessert was a 3 combo course which were rum cake, chocolate and cannoli.

We were told to start from the middle which was the rum cake that made Rachel go hmmmmm ! don’t think I need to say more ha!  The dark chocolate had a creamy goey middle and the cannoli was yummy! And in the words of Rachel ”had d a wonderful time and thanks for introducing me to my first tasting menu 🤗”. Ahh 28 Posti, you did that 👏🏽, grazie!

Saluti

P.S. We all know Milan is the fashion capital, the Dolce & Gabbana exhibition is one to see if you are there this spring / summer. If you fancy a speakeasy for cocktails, then white rabbit is a place to consider.
