Remember being able to get into the car and going for a drive on a summer afternoon? No prior destination in mind per se? that is exactly how this day started back in June 2018. T’was a Saturday, chores done and what not, summer in the air and we thought, yep! We are taking penny for a spin!

Now, I know I mentioned not having a set destination, we, (Neal) usually selects a driving route via google maps which we just follow like the yellow brick road! This tends to work, plus we end up finding some pretty dope places such as the coach!

The coach is a one Michelin star pub[1] located in Marlow, a Buckinghamshire town located in South East England. We initially wanted to try the Hand and flowers (which is the only pub in the UK with 2 Michelin stars) but it was fully booked, so we went to the sister pub (the coach) which welcomed walk-ins! It is not a very big one (it’s cosy), nonetheless, it was a good use of space with seating at the bar as well. We were given a table quite quickly too. We decided to try a few dishes (as we do) and allz I am saying is kapow! The menu had 3 broad sections – meat, no meat and sweet. We tried something from every section!

For meat we had a whole stuffed rotisserie quail with black pudding and moilee sauce. Let me say this, I was not expecting the ‘whole’ Quail, but it was a whole Quail and cooked to perfection! Another dish that didn’t look like what was expected or written in the menu was the crispy pigs head with celeriac remoulade and spiced date. I mean, no clue to what the dish could look like and we were pleasantly surprised to say the least. The pigs head was made into croquette and was perfect with the celeriac and I liked the pork crackling thrown in as well. The chicken liver parfait with figs and chutney was delicious!

For our no meat, we had the coach Caesar salad, mushroom risotto claude and the coach chips with bearnise (which we had with the Quail)

Profiteroles with soured cream and chocolate sauce was the perfect sweet dish to end this meal.

Now, not going to front yeah, for pub food (and no pub food is not bad, it usually not with that many scrumptious options) it was darn good!

Saturday afternoon well spent!

Cheers

p.s. you know how I was on about how good the food is, well we have been here a second time and tried reordered the Quail, some Game, loin of pork and the second time was better than the first!
