Since lock down 3 has ended in the UK, man them are out in the streets doing the MOST! People queueing for the pub at an ungodly hour on a MONDAY morning! The crave for a good ol’ pint in the pub is REAL folks! I am a tad bit envious because Malta are still in lockdown. I hear it is a strategy to keep numbers down and hopefully open in time for summer, by then I would have been here over 6 months 😮
So, till non-essential shops, places and restaurants re-open in Malta, I stay reminiscing and having flashbacks, okay? good stuff. Elliot’s happened winter of 2017, located in Borough market (one of our fav places to go a wandering), it is literally at the end of the street. The borough market area and it’s environs have some pretty damn good places for food – Flor, Arthur Hooper’s, little wonder we love it eh? Even though the location is at the end of the street and is pedestrian heavy, once inside Eliiot’s it was quiet, with a cosy atmospher and interesting decor (ceilings) which we quite liked.

In true garman vs food fashion, we decided to try out a few dishes, and phew! it was too good! Similar to Lupins, you are encouraged to share plates and have yourself a mini taster party 😀. We had a bottle of Les Quaterons Sancerre wine. It had earthy citrusy flavour – not too dry, light on the palate. It was nay to shabby and went really well with our choice of dishes.

Our chosen dishes came as and when ready from the kitchen which was cool. The sourdough bread was fresh and just lush with the garlic butter with a lickle helping of pickled veg – pimping!!!! We were like okay, Elliot’s about to be real interesting

If we thought the sourdough bread was lit, we were not ready for the cheese puffs. Not going to lie, I did not know what to expect. I assumed it would be like a cheesy ball, glad I was wrong. These cheese puffs looked like croquettes but cheesy like extra chessy but made with really good cheese you know? Fried cheese in breadcrumbs, golden brown colour, light and just scrumptious.

Every dish that came out was just as unexpected but delightful. Like the wild mushroom and egg yolk? It literally was that – wild mushroom and egg yolk, simple but so good! The offal’s? Chicken hearts served yakitori style on skewers so full of flavour that all I could think was UMAMI!!!

The pickled mackerel was again a perfect! It tasted delicious even Neal could not resist and you lot know he does not do Fish! The Crab? Ugh! I mean these guys did not play AT ALL! Pudding was a caramel, chocolatey goodness!

In addition to the food being awesome, the staff here? They were good at making us feel very welcomed. Whislt the food might look simple, sometimes simple is best no? Plus the food is sourced locally err borough market?, seasonal and the menu changes constantly keeping things fresh and interesting. What’s npt to love? Looking forward to visiting again. In the mean time, you lot need to give it a go and let me know what you think?
Cheers
