Asian food is as complex as the continent itself. For instance, the stir fry noodles known as ‘chow mein’ to the Chinese, is ‘pancit’ to the Filipinos as is ‘pad-thai’ to Thai people (in my opinion anyway). Whilst cooking styles might be similar, there are so many varieties and ingredients 😱 Any ho’ I digress.. Back to this food adventure then? When it comes to Asian food tasting, we have had some truly epic meals on the continent from Ran Jay faai’s crab omelette, a classic Thai feast at Bo.Lan and the wildest food at Gaggan but never had a traditional Indian food tasting . To say I was excited about eating here is really downplaying my emotions, I was proper excited ha!
We arrived Trishna for lunch and I didn’t know the restaurant had a tasting menu, I assumed we would sample a few dishes, I mean it is Asian food right🤷♂️? We sampled the Koliwada menu. A five course of Indian dishes that was a culinary delight! Before I get into the food, can we take a moment to appreciate the cocktails up in here. We tried the signature cocktails – a taste of spring. I had a mimosa which had cinnamon around the edge of the glass and Neal had a matcha like cocktail and it was refreshing!

Our meal started with a variety of papads and chutney but these were not ordinary because these sauces were flavourful – mint and coriander, tomato and shrimp (which had actual shrimp pieces in it) and a sweet and sour.. ouuuu it was delish.

I could not wait to get into this food! My appetite was whetted and I was ready! Nandu Varuval, soft shell crab was literally a whole soft shell crab with green chilli, tomato chutney served with Portuguese wine! The chutney and the crab? Lawwwwddd…😋 Nariyal Scallops was grilled with vermicelli upma, coconut chip, chilli and coconut chutney paired with a glass of brut reserve. I mean, it was pimping okay 😎?!

Hariyali breem was a green seam breem – LITERALLY!

With smoked tomato kachumba, coriander and green chilli paired with Croatian white wine. Shahi Salmon tikka was grilled tikka salmon.. like tikka salmon who knew eh? It was F R E S H tasting, the smoked raw papaya & samphire chaat, dill leaf and royal cumin was just lush with rose wine from Provence, France.

Now the Duck chutney Seekh I was not expecting and you really can’t blame me. I was expecting Duck slices, or Duck thigh and such like, well it wasn’t. This Duck came through folded up looking like a cross between an omelette and / or a wrap 😮

and the aroma? My goodness, it was an attack to the senses and I mean ALL five of them. The pineapple chutney added a layer of sweetness that went great with the Riesling spatlese wine which was not too overpowering as the tomato tokku and Kashmiri chill added the balance. The tandoori lamb chop was cooked perfectly and the glass of red La folie wine was exactly what was required

The curry was as you would expect a feast – naan bread, lamb, cashew and pepper chicken, rice, dahl, spinach – yep a feast! And again, it was so tasty.

Pudding was a chocolate chikki which was a pistachio chikki, toasted buckwheat and cardamon ice cream as well as pear and saffron mousse (saffron poached pear meringue, fennel jelly) both were scrumptious!

As were the petit fours

This was a special menu, I loved how the chef and his team have created a really tasty Asian meal not too spicy and so flavourful but not overbearingly so, like a particular ingredient or seasoning is dominant. Instead, the dishes were perfectly balanced with enough kick to remind you that you are experiencing Indian dishes, like don’t get it twisted 😀.
Trishna! One of a kind place 👌
