It is beginning to feel like summer on the Island hoorayyy! We are honouring an invitation sent to us by our local wine merchants -an evening with Dr. Loosen! You lot know I love me some Riesling wine and my first taste was a Dr. Loosen. My dear friend, Folarin, popped a bottle at his home many moons ago and I was hooked! The event took place at Gracy’s and not going to lie, it feels real good being able to mix and mingle with other expats / locals! I really didn’t think that THE Dr. Loosen would make an appearance but he actually did. It was a nice touch to have him explain the wines and pairing choices. Also, the chef – Tom Peters, had only just moved to Malta and this was going to be his first major gig!

The evening started on the roof top, serving a selection of chef’s signature canapes accompanied by Dr. Loosen Riesling sekt extra dry N.V., essentially, bubbly! We then proceeded to the dining area at the heart of the building to what I can only describe as a sort of grand hall. The tables were organised by our hosts for groups of five or more and our table was a hoot – bare laughter and so much jokes!

For entrée we had foie gras and chicken live parfait, blackberry, brioche paired with Dr. Loosen Urziger Wurzgarten reisling kabinett, 2020. The entrée was lovely, the slight bitter taste of liver parfait was nulled by the black berry, the fattiness of the foie gras really brought together all the flavours

For the second course,  white asparagus, platinum caviar, comte, hazelnut with a Villa Wolf pinot noir rose. I really liked this wine! Main course was Turbot and hand dived scallop wellington, spinach, beurre blanc accompanying this is Dr, Loosen Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling grand cru 2018.

Ouu.. the fish was so good, that puff pastry that melted in your mouth! Desert was poached peach, yogurt sorbet, candied pistachio, raspberry paired with Dr, Loosen Riesling Beerenauslese 2017.

Chef Tim definitely saved the best for last, The pudding was delish, plus, serving it a fave pudding wine – beerenauslese! Looovvvved it! Overall it was a nice evening out albeit it being a tad bit too ‘busy’. I am used to a more personalised dining experience when on a food adventure , guess this just means we will need to go back and sample more of chef Tim’s culinary creations!

Cheers,

Ndidi
