Can I just say that Hermanus is just stunning! The landscape is gorgeous- hills, vineyards peppered across, long winding roads perfect for driving. *sigh* I could get used to this lol! Since experiencing the pinotage wine at Wilderkrans, I am on a mission to taste more of the wines this piece of the motherland has to offer and Creation Wines is just the place to do this. Located in the walker bay wine region, high up in the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge near Hermanus (trust me it was high up), the restaurant is located smack within the vineyards, so you know you are getting your wines from the source lol!

As we do, we rocked up on a whim not entirely sure what to expect. We didn’t know if they were open, no reservation nor did we know if we would get food much less taste any wines. I am pleased to say that the food gods were on our side. We had some good food and tasted some dope wines #winning. The hour was somewhere between brunch and lunch time, so we had the option of having lunch or trying out dishes and wines from the small plate pairing indicated on the black board. Now you know how we roll, damn right we went for the small plate pairing and we had all, ALL the courses on the menu, because why not?

It was YUMMY! I liked everything that was served and I mean EVERYTHING. Starting with the butter that came with the bread, fluffy, creamy and seasoned. The rack of lamb was cooked perfectly and the grenache that accompanied my days! I mean I have had grenache but I found that to be a poor version of the white zinfandel rose, but the south African Grenache? Had more colour, more body and tasted BOLD! The chicken liver pâté? Presented as a dollop on a plate with pickled grapes, rye crisp, herb salad, dehydrated raspberries. The thing was a freaking salad like?! But it hit right with the estate pinot noir! Every dish was presented in an explosion of colour and texture! It was awesome!

The cheese selection was presented in a way similar to L’enclume which I liked as well. The wine glasses were lined up first and then you get your cheese board. Now this cheese board was presented like a charcuterie board and was loaded with cuts of cheese, dips, bread, crackers, I mean it was a damn meal in its own right and when I tell you I had a huge smile on my face… I did, I absolutely DID!!

Creation wines, you served some amazing food and wine! Dankie
